Torry, I have to say this week I had so many arguments with myself it was totally comical. I think I was 3/4+ into my first mile before I realized I had already guaranteed my first 2 miles and stopped the hate talk in my head. ;) Sometimes I actually have to just ignore the lazy girl and work toward the door with purpose.

I like it! I am going to do the same. Supposedly (I'll believe it when it happens and the equipment gets delivered) Jason and I are going to wake up every morning and work out together. I too need at least 8 hours to function and not be a cranky bitch :) The exercise will also us help us with those great endorphins! You are so inspiring. Thank you for another great post. I look forward to the next :) ~ Danielle

I am right there with you. Just know you have successfully motivated me. It's getting out the door that is the hardest. It sounds like you have momentum now. Keep up the great work. By the way, I was watching The Wiz this afternoon and thought one of the songs was a great one for a workout playlist. It's called "Ease on Down the Road". Check it out, I'm going to add to my list.

I can just see you playing that song as you are strutting up the mountain to the Basecamp - arms swinging and hips swaying with a big smile on your face!

I recently registered for the 3-day Walk for the Cure in San Diego this November. It will be my first time and I am really excited and nervous. Your post really hit home and helped me to get back into focus and calm the chaos. Thanks for sharing your insight.

Hi, Torry -

I think the same things. I always tell myself to just shut up and do it instead of talking about it all of the time! Ugh :( I am inspired by you :) At least you are doing it...hopefully I will too.

YOU CAN DO IT! :)

Torry- I suggest you get someone to work out with. I have a trainer who I pay in advance to work my once a week at a specific time. Then I try for two other times myself and usually get in one. If your date to meet someone is on your calendar it sticks. Then there is the motivation you will get once you do start working after a month or two when you can attribute actually felling differently. Go girl!

Torry, you and I sound a lot alike. Many good intentions, but little in the way of actual progress, at least with respect to the gym. Which is weird, because I know you make nothing BUT progress in your career. I'm sort of the same, too -- successful in some areas of my life, but not so much in the area of being physically fit, eating right, working out, etc.

So maybe you and I can crack the code together.

For me, the biggest problem is that my life runs (more or less) on a schedule. And if something is not on my schedule, it's just not getting done. I know that if I put going to the gym on my schedule, I'd go. I mean, after all -- it's on my schedule! But I can't seem to make that leap and actually do that.

Why is that? Well, it could be that I just hate going to "the gym." I find it all so boring. Running on a treadmill? Blech! Lifting weights? (Key at our age as we lose calorie-burning muscle mass.) Double-blech! It's just a yawn-fest from beginning to end.

For myself, I think I need to find some things to do that are fun and yet healthful. Like I know I would love to play on a men's basketball team, but I have tried in vain -- for three years! -- to find a group of guys my own age who aren't worried about their ankles, knees, or schedules. We have leagues here in our city, but I can't seem to put together a team.

But enough me and my many issues....

So, what's *really* keeping YOU from the gym? Are you putting gym time on your schedule?

Maybe we can keep each other in check. I'll bash you for not going to the gym, and you can slam me for the same. Whaddya say? I'm putting myself down for this morning at 10 o'clock...

I don't know about you, but hiking down 5000 feet in Vermont I had heat coming out of my knees. Good luck, Torry!! Train like no one's watching, and all that ;-)
