Packing list...

Base Camp DuffelThe more I read the more I learn what I’ll need on this little adventure. So far, the only thing I own is an iPhone, a solar charger and two external chargers. (Guess you can see what my priority is!) Everything I will need for 21 days on the trek  must fit in a base camp duffel (picture courtesy of my friend Jason) weighing no more than 40 lbs. as that is all the yaks can carry…thank goodness for yaks.

Tons of information about what to bring is online, but there are subtle differences between lists. I’m quite overwhelmed by all of this.

For those of you who know me in person, you know I haven’t deviated from my wardrobe in more than 20 years…black pants, black skirt, black sweater, white/blue/striped blouses, black/white turtlenecks, little black dress, play clothes, sweats…done. In fact, I just replace the same things…rarely adding anything new. (Hmmm…this may be a problem.)

Maybe if I start slowly and build a list of the types of things I’ll need and add detail to each of these categories it will be more managable. I can even post my packing list, as it develops, on a page on this blog. Yeah, this sounds like a plan I can deal with…little steps to reach the ultimate goal. Below is the first list of big categories.

Clothing
Equipment
Toiletries
First aid
Documents
Creature comforts

I’m starting this list now with hopes of being able to review it with folks who have actually done the trek to get their advice and guidance. Updates to come.

Training Summary
Physical Activity: Nope Serious problem.
Nutrition: Good Forgot my lunch again. I’m going to bring a couple of cans of soup to leave in my desk for emergencies.
Hydration: 16 oz. Didn’t even try.
Sleep: 5 hours Totally trashed today. This is not enough sleep for me.

  • Torry,

LOVE that you liked that picture. When I saw it in the outdoor store, I turned to Jodi and said, “I’ve got to take a picture of that for Torry!”

Best wishes on your amazing, and utterly inspiring, goal!

  • Jason, you are such a great supporter! I hope Jodi like the Nepali flag! Enjoy the rest of your Tahoe adventure.
