I’m pulling out all the stops to jump start my training! My friend Andy is riding the Tour de Cure to raise money for diabetes research and education. Instead of giving him a donation, I decided to join his riding team. We’re going to do a 35-mile ride on June 19th. Yep, 35 miles.
My bike is ready to go. I found my shoes (they’re a little stinky, but no time for new ones now) and my helmet. Now I need new shorts and a jersey. Why is there always so much equipment? I guess this is just a precursor for all the stuff I’ll need for the trek. I’m starting from absolutely nothing …no boots, no trekking sticks (I think that’s what they’re called)…nothing. Time to start a list!
So, I went online to learn what the training plan should be for this type of ride and guess what? The site says there is not enough time to train. WHAT? That can’t be right. I have 20 days to train. I think I can do it. And, if I can’t be in physical shape…I’m just going to have to mentally make myself do it. I’m a very slow rider and will get to know the folks at the back of the pack. 35 miles will take me most of the day…good experience for an all-day trek. If you want to sponsor me on this ride [shameless plug], just visit my sponsor page.
