I’m pulling out all the stops to jump start my training! My friend Andy is riding the Tour de Cure to raise money for diabetes research and education. Instead of giving him a donation, I decided to join his riding team. We’re going to do a 35-mile ride on June 19th. Yep, 35 [...] I have to admit it, today was pretty terrific. I closed the loop on a bunch of small projects that had just been hanging out there until I had “time to finish them.” Unfortunately, not all of my chores are done, but I feel pretty good nonetheless. I guess that’s why people like to [...] I had a 6:30 AM flight to a spa in Miami this morning with an upgrade into first class. Only one problem, my fab, going- to-South Beach pedi and I forgot to wake up. “No prob, take a later flight,” you say. Great idea, except it’s Memorial Day Weekend and “that ain’t happening” according to [...] Yesterday was my 50th birthday. I’m now a card-carrying member of AARP. That hardly seems possible. I really don’t feel 50…whatever that feels like. Sure, my knees hurt most of the time and the thought of going to an all-night party makes me laugh…but, 50. Nope. Maybe 40. But, definitely not 50. Day 15 – Pangboche/Namche This morning we climb to upper Pangboche, where the oldest monastery of Khumbu is located. We’ll keep on high trail following [...] Day 13 – Gorak Shep/Everest Base Camp (17,500 ft.)/Loboje Today is the culmination of your journey — the day you reach Everest base camp. Soon after departing Gorak Shep, leave the moraines behind and follow the streams of the glacier. Directly before you is the great Khumbu Icefall, a slow tumble of ice boulders [...] Day 12 – Loboje/Kala Patthar (18,192 ft.)/Gorak Shep (16,404 ft.) An early start takes the team along a rough path beside the Khumbu Glacier to the tea shacks at Gorak Shep.
