Now that the word was out, how do I get three weeks off of work to take the adventure of a lifetime?
Luckily for me, I work for a great company. UCG, a B2B publisher, has a unique vacation policy. Instead of giving people X number of days per year, it relies on people to be responsible and use common sense in scheduling time off with their manager. Period.
Well, that all sounds good when you are talking about taking off a day here, a day there and maybe a week at the holidays. What about long vacation? In a location that may or may not have Internet access? My request was definitely going to be pushing the envelope.
I work for a couple of good guys, but I wasn’t quite sure how to start this “I’m going to Everest, what do you think about 3 weeks off?” conversation with them. As it turns out, they were cool with the idea and said we would figure out how to make it work. Wow! We’d figure out how to make it work.
It’s real. The trip is on.
