After the somewhat deflating encounter with the staircase, I thought it was a good idea to go out to YouTube and get a little inspiration.
What was life like before YouTube? Facebook? Twitter? Foursquare? Flickr? Ustream? Daily Booth? Flip cams? iPhones? Does anyone remember? Amazing how our world has expanded and morphed into a new reality. Anyone, everyone, is a content producer. Interested in something? So is someone else. We aren’t alone. We have peeps. We’re part of a community. A community we create. And, we can connect with our peeps…from anywhere, at anytime.
It really makes me stop and think. How do I decide what to consume? Do I engage in the conversation? How do I find the time? When do I turn it off? How do I separate the important from the bright, shiny object? Whom (for Lisa Getter who is reading this) do I trust to guide me to what I want to, need to, know?
I need a sherpa to guide me. I probably need more than one sherpa, as I’m interested in more than one thing. Maybe my peeps are also my sherpas. But, a sherpa is a trusted guide. Who can I trust in this social media world. The big brands? Publishers? Associations? Lists? Popular people with the most followers? People who post the most? People I connect with? It’s probably a combination of all of these that form the relationships I have in the social media world…but the relationships may be with people I haven’t met in person. Maybe I’m my own sherpa? Mind blowing.
Enjoy the video. I did.
